SENIOR SERVICES PROGRAMS

Support for Every Stage of Aging

From nutritious meals and transportation to benefits guidance, caregiver support and opportunities for connection, Project NOW offers services designed to help older adults and adults with disabilities live independently in their communities.

A dedicated team of volunteers delivers a nutritious lunchtime meal to homebound older adults Monday through Friday. A $5 donation per meal is suggested, but no one is denied service if they are unable or choose not to donate.

Our office is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Are you interested in volunteering to deliver home delivered meals?

Hot midday meals are served at six community locations throughout Rock Island County. In addition to a nutritious meal, these welcoming dining sites give older adults an opportunity to connect and socialize with others.

A $4 donation per meal is suggested, but no one is denied a meal if they are unable or choose not to donate.

Rock Island County Meal Sites

Call 309-788-6335 at least 24 hours in advance to reserve your meal.

Seniors and Informal Caregivers can meet face to face with trained staff and receive Information & Assistance on a variety of services available to them including:

  • Utility Assistance
  • Social Isolation
  • Medicaid Application Assistance
  • SHIP Counseling – Medicare Guidance
  • Benefit Access/Seniors Ride Free
  • Illinois Care Connections – Helps with a free tablet, may help with internet for a year if they do not already have it, helps with assistive devices, and is a durable medical equipment loaning closet.
  • Information and Links to Other Community Services

Outreach Staff provide information, assistance, and referrals in the home for homebound seniors (not home health care).

For residents of Rock Island and Mercer County 60 years and over, Transportation Services are offered to Congregate Meal Sites, Medical Appointments, Grocery Shopping, Social Security, Human Services offices, and any other place you may need to go in our service area.

  • Recommend 24 hour notice, but rides are not guaranteed, spots fill up fast.

There is a recommended donation of $1.50 each way for seniors 60 and older.
No one will be denied a service if unable or unwilling to donate.

Classes, activities and programs help older adults remain active, build connections and support their overall well-being. The Rock Island Senior Center is open 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday and provides a wide range of activities for Seniors including:

  • Crafts, Cards, Bingo
  • Health and Nutrition Presentations
  • TV, VCR, and Computer
  • Rules of the Road Class
  • AARP Tax Preparation
  • Special Events and Parties
  • Good Fellowship and a Chance to Meet New Friends

Resources, education and support are available for people caring for older adults or loved ones with disabilities, helping caregivers find information and navigate available services.

Questions About Senior Services?

Senior Services can help older adults, adults with disabilities, caregivers, and families find resources and stay connected. Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often.

Many programs are available to adults age 60 and older or adults with disabilities. Eligibility requirements vary by service. Our team can help you determine which programs may be available to you.

Some programs are supported through voluntary donations. Eligible individuals will not be denied services because they are unable to donate.

Home-Delivered Meals require an assessment to determine eligibility. Contact Senior Services to begin the process and learn more about meal delivery.

Yes. Congregate Meals are available at designated meal sites. Reservations should be made in advance.

Yes. Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) counselors can help with Medicare questions, enrollment, coverage options, and changes to your coverage.

Senior Transportation provides door-to-door transportation for needs such as medical and therapy appointments, shopping, meal sites, and other destinations. Contact Senior Services to learn about availability and scheduling.

Caregiver Support Services can help caregivers identify needs and connect with programs, services, education, and other support.

Yes. Senior Services can provide assistance with programs such as the Benefit Access Application, including discounted license plate stickers and the free transit pass for eligible individuals.
